I-95 North traffic flowing smoothly again

9:05 A.M. Update:

Traffic has eased considerably on I-95 North in Virginia. Things are moving smoothly approaching the Springfield Interchange. Some congestion remains around Dale City and Woodbridge, but it has largely cleared up after being jammed up for several hours this morning.

In case you missed it: A fatal early morning accident on I-395 South at Duke Street resulted in one death and sent three other people to the hospital, according to Virginia State Police.

The accident at South Capitol and N streets SE has been cleared. And the truck in the Third Street Tunnel is on the shoulder of the southbound side of the tunnel, so that shouldn’t impact traffic.

8:45 A.M. Update:

The fatal early morning accident on I-395 South at Duke Street is still blocking the right merge lane and the off-ramp to exit 3B.

The D.C. police are responding to a report of a tractor trailer stuck in the northbound Third Street Tunnel. Watch for potential delays.

8:30 A.M. Update:

An accident on inbound New York Avenue is blocking the right westbound lane at the Anacostia Bridge. Stay to the left and expect delays.

The accident on westbound I-66 at Nutley Street has been cleared.

8:28 A.M. Update:

An accident on westbound I-66 at Nutley Street is blocking the center lane.

8:20 A.M. Update:

The accident on the inner loop of the Beltway after Colesville Road has been cleared from the shoulder.

8:13 A.M. Update:

The D.C. police are now responding to an accident at South Capitol and N streets SE.

8:05 A.M. Update:

The accident on I-395 North at Duke Street has been cleared and the left lane reopened.

7:57 A.M. Update:

The D.C. police say nothing was found on northbound I-395 at the Maine Avenue exit

7:55 A.M. Update:

Spoke too soon on trains: MARC Camden Line train 842 is running 15 minutes behind schedule due to single-tracking, according to the Maryland Transit Administration.

An accident on the inner loop of the Beltway after Colesville Road is blocking one of the shoulders.

There’s also reportedly debris on the outer loop of the Beltway south of Pennsylvania Avenue, so watch for delays there.

7:43 A.M. Update:

An accident on I-395 at Seminary Road is blocking one of the reversible lanes and the left shoulder of the H.O.V. lanes.

The D.C. police are responding to a reported accident on northbound I-395 at the Maine Avenue exit.

There are no reported Metro, MARC or VRE delays at this time. Some MARC trains were running late earlier this morning, but at this time everything appears to be on time.

7:40 A.M. Update:

MARC Camden Line train 849 is boarding on the opposite track at the Savage station.

7:30 A.M. Update:

The accident on I-395 North at Duke Street is blocking the left lane and left shoulder. Expect this to cause delays that could stretch back to the Springfield Interchange.

7:15 A.M. Update:

If you’re just waking up or checking on traffic, here’s what has been going on this morning:

— A fatal early morning accident on I-395 South at the Duke Street exit was blocking some lanes as police investigated the crash. One person is dead, while three others were taken to the hospital, according to the Virginia State Police. The accident occurred sometime after 2 a.m. this morning. The right merge lane and off-ramp to exit 3B remain blocked.

— An accident on I-95 North before the Springfield Interchange was blocking all lanes briefly this morning. The lanes reopened by 6:15 a.m., but heavy delays remain on I-95 North stretching nearly back to Dale City.

— And an accident just now on I-395 North at Duke Street is blocking the left lane and left shoulder.

7 A.M. Update:

A disabled vehicle on I-395 North at Duke Street is blocking one reversible lane.

There’s also an accident in the same area, blocking the left northbound shoulder.

And another disabled vehicle on I-395 North at King Street is on the right shoulder.

6:50 A.M. Update:

I-95 North remains sluggish and slow approaching the Springfield Interchange. There’s a decent amount of congestion between Newington and the interchange, but delays are much worse south of Lorton. Headaches begin just north of Dale City.

A disabled vehicle on northbound U.S. 1 near Telegraph Road in Fairfax is blocking the left lane.

6:40 A.M. Update:

MARC Brunswick Line trains continue to have delays. Train 872 is 8 to 10 minutes behind schedule right now, following the similarly delayed train 890.

6:30 A.M. Update:

The accident on I-395 South at Duke Street is still blocking the southbound right lane and the off-ramp to exit 3B

6:20 AM. Update:

The accident on I-95 North before the Springfield Interchange has been cleared and all lanes reopened. Heavy remain approaching this spot.

Good morning, commuters! We’ll be keeping an eye on the roads and rails this morning, reporting any delays or issues — and we will need your help.

No rain is expected today, according to the Capital Weather Gang. It’s just going to be a bright, warm morning commute.

So far:

— An accident on I-95 North before the Springfield Interchange is blocking all lanes and the left shoulder. Traffic can get by on the right shoulder right now. Delays are pretty heavy and getting worse.

— An early morning accident on I-395 South at Duke Street is blocking the southbound right lane and the off-ramp to exit 3B. The Virginia State police are investigating a fatal crash involving one vehicle that happened on the ramp. One person is confirmed dead, according to police. Three other people in the car were taken to Fairfax Inova Hospital.

— MARC Brunswick Line trains are experiencing some delays due to freight train traffic. Train 870 is 30 minutes late, while trains 890 and 872 are delayed following it.

— Work on the Route 50/Arlington Boulevard interchange at Courthouse Road and 10th Street continues through Friday. Remember, lane closures will occur on westbound Arlington Boulevard between 6:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. this week. (Eastbound lane closures are scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
