Keeping tabs on Tuesday A.M. commute

8:30 A.M. Update:

The accident on the inner loop of the Beltway before Pennsylvania Avenue is now just blocking one of the shoulders. The two inner loop lanes that were blocked have reopened.

The Suitland Parkway remains congested near Firth Sterling Avenue after the earlier accidents and lane closures.

Reminder: The right exit lane from northbound I-95 to eastbound MD 198 will close between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. so crews can work, according to the Maryland State Highway Administration.

8:25 A.M. Update:

The traffic signals at New York and Montana avenues were repaired this morning, according to police. Expect heavy traffic on inbound New York Avenue.

8:15 A.M. Update:

An accident on the inner loop of the Beltway before Pennsylvania Avenue is blocking two lanes and one of the shoulders.

8:10 A.M. Update:

The accident on the inner loop of the Beltway after Connecticut Avenue has been cleared and all lanes reopened, but heavy delays remain.

7:55 A.M. Update:

An accident on the inner loop of the Beltway after Connecticut Avenue is blocking two lanes and one of the shoulders.

7:45 A.M. Update:

An accident on the inner loop of the Beltway between the Springfield Interchange and Braddock Road is blocking the right shoulder.

7:30 A.M. Update:

Again, all lanes are open again on Suitland Parkway at Stanton Road and Firth Sterling Avenue in Southeast Washington. Heavy delays remain in place, so expect problems on that roadway.

7:20 A.M. Update:

A disabled vehicle on the outer loop of the Beltway at the Leesburg Pike is blocking the right shoulder.

7:10 A.M. Update:

All lanes have reopened on Suitland Parkway at Stanton Road and Firth Sterling Avenue in Southeast Washington. That being said, heavy delays remain on Suitland Parkway, so expect to encounter major congestion if you are heading that way.

7:05 A.M. Update:

The accident on the Suitland Parkway at Stanton Road SE is blocking one westbound/inbound lane. And the right inbound lane remains blocked on the Suitland Parkway at Firth Sterling Avenue SE. Expect major delays on the Suitland Parkway and avoid that road if you can help it.

6:55 A.M. Update:

The accident on the Suitland Parkway at Firth Sterling SE is now blocking the right lane of the inbound Suitland Parkway.

6:45 A.M. Update:

An accident on the Suitland Parkway at Firth Sterling SE is blocking all lanes on Suitland Parkway. Avoid the area.

6:25 A.M. Update:

The accident on westbound I-66 at the exit for the Dulles Toll Road is now blocking the left lane of the westbound exit ramp.

6:20 A.M. Update:

An accident on the Suitland Parkway at Stanton Road SE is blocking one inbound lane on the parkway and creating heavy delays.

Good morning, commuters! We’ll be keeping an eye on the roads and rails this morning, reporting any delays or issues — and we will need your help.

There could be some clouds this morning, followed by potential rain later in the day, according to the Capital Weather Gang.

So far:

— An accident on westbound I-66 at the Dulles Toll Road is blocking the westbound exit ramp.

— A CSX train carrying coal derailed in downtown Ellicott City just before midnight on Monday. Two people, who were on the tracks and were not rail employees, were killed.

— And for later this morning: The right exit lane from northbound I-95 to eastbound MD 198 will close between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Tuesday so crews can work, according to the Maryland State Highway Administration.
