Outer loop slow near American Legion Bridge after tree falls on car

9:35 A.M. Update:

The accident on the westbound I-395/Southwest Freeway before 7th Street SW has been cleared, but major delays remain in place.

9:05 A.M. Update:

Another accident on westbound U.S. 50 after Collington Road is blocking one lane again as well as one of the shoulders. There are already massive delays approaching this spot.

9 A.M. Update:

The accident on the westbound I-395/Southwest Freeway before 7th Street SW is still blocking the left two lanes and creating major delays.

8:55 A.M. Update:

Blue and Orange Line trains moving through the Rosslyn and Foggy Bottom stations could experience delays due to a signal issue.

8:40 A.M. Update:

Multiple key arteries are severely congested this morning, creating problems for commuters across the region.

I-395 North is a brutal mess from the 14th Street Bridge back to the Springfield Interchange. Delays slow that entire span.

I-95 North is congested approaching the Springfield Interchange, with delays stretched back several miles.

The outer loop of the Beltway is still very slow near the American Legion Bridge. A tree fell on a car there earlier, blocking two lanes and creating heavy delays that haven’t abated.

Westbound U.S. 50 is still very jammed up after an earlier accident at Collington Road blocked multiple lanes.

I-270 South is a mess essentially from Germantown on down beyond Rockville.

An accident on the westbound Southeast-Southwest Freeway before 7th Street SW is blocking two lanes right now, which is going to create major problems there.

8:35 A.M. Update:

All lanes have reopened on westbound U.S. 50 after Collington Road, but massive delays remain approaching that spot.

8:25 A.M. Update:

A pedestrian was struck at 12th and H streets NE, briefly closing the 1100 block of H Street, but it has been reopened.

The accident on southbound DC-295 at River Terrace NE has been cleared and all lanes are open there.

8:20 A.M. Update:

All lanes have reopened on the outer loop of the Beltway near the American Legion Bridge. One of the shoulders remains blocked, and heavy delays remain approaching this spot.

8:10 A.M. Update:

Two lanes and one of the shoulders remain blocked on westbound U.S. 50 after Collington Road.

8:05 A.M. Update:

The outer loop lanes blocked by a downed tree near the American Legion Bridge could remain closed for another hour, according to the Maryland State Police. They still need to get equipment to the scene that will remove the tree from the roadway.

The driver and her car remain on the scene. The car needs to be towed due to damage sustained when the tree fell. The driver appears to be uninjured and refused any medical care.

8 A.M. Update:

Outer loop update: The downed tree appears to be blocking one outer loop lane, one outer loop merge lane and one of the shoulders.

7:55 A.M. Update:

An accident on westbound U.S. 50 after Collington Road is blocking the left two lanes. Expect heavy backups.

An accident has been reported on South Capitol and Firth Sterling streets in Southeast Washington, but police say it isn’t impacting traffic.

7:50 A.M. Update:

Two Beltway lanes are blocked in Maryland after a tree fell on a car earlier this morning.

A tree fell on a car driving on the outer loop of the Beltway just before the American Legion Bridge shortly before 7:30 a.m., according to the Maryland State Police.

The driver of the car wasn’t injured and declined medical attention, police say.

The two outer loop lanes remain closed due to the downed tree and there’s no timetable yet for when they might reopen.

7:40 A.M. Update:

An accident on the outer loop of the Beltway at River Road is blocking the right two lanes. The left lanes are still open, but delays are building and only going to worsen.

An accident on southbound DC-295 at River Terrace NE is blocking one lane there.

7:30 A.M. Update:

An accident on the outer loop of the Beltway could create issues on the Maryland side of the American Legion Bridge.

MARC Camden Line train 847 is running 10 minutes behind schedule due to a signal issue.

7:10 A.M. Update:

The accident on I-270 South at Montrose Road has been been cleared.

6:50 A.M. Update:

An accident on I-270 South at Montrose Road could create delays there.

A pair of disabled vehicles on I-95 North could also create some delays. There’s a disabled vehicle on the right shoulder just before Woodbridge and another one, also on the right shoulder, near Joplin Road and Triangle.

6:40 A.M. Update:

I-395 North is already pretty slow around Edsall Road.

An accident on eastbound U.S. 50 near Westfax Drive is blocking the left lane.

The lovely weather continues this week, with sunshine, a light breeze and pleasant temperatures all predicted today, according to the Capital Weather Gang.

So far this morning:

— Debris is blocking the East-West Highway in both directions at Maple Avenue in Chevy Chase.

— An accident on I-95 just south of the Springfield Interchange is blocking one reversible lane.
