Man has fatal heart attack on Metro train

Metrorail said a rider had an apparent heart attack Monday afternoon on a Yellow Line train that was headed to Huntington.

The incident happened at 2:25 p.m. near the Pentagon Station. The man lost consciousness on the train, and emergency personnel were brought in to help him.

He was transported to Virginia Hospital Center where he was later pronounced dead. Metro said he was a 51-year-old Alexandria resident but did not identify him further.

The incident caused trains to single-track through the area on the Blue and Yellow lines. Passengers experienced delays of up to 10 minutes, according to Metro’s chief spokesman, Dan Stessel.
