Metrobus involved in accident in Northeast D.C.

A Metrobus hit a Mazda SUV mid-morning Monday after the vehicle crossed into its path at 13th and Florida Avenue Northeast, officials said. Twelve people were injured, but none critically.

Dan Stessel, Metro’s chief spokesman, said the incident occurred about 11:45 a.m. when the bus was traveling on Florida Avenue toward Union Station. He said a sanitation truck rear-ended the SUV, causing it to “cross into oncoming traffic” in front of the bus.

He said no serious injuries were reported.

The bus, he said, was traveling less than 20 mph. Nine passengers from the bus were transported to area hospitals. The driver of the sanitation truck and two people from the SUV were also transported to hospitals, he said.
