Capital Beltway returning to normal Maryland

10:05 A.M. Update: Lanes have reopened and traffic flow is returning to normal.

9:20 A.M. Update: An accident on the inner loop has three lanes of the Beltway closed at Georgia Avenue. Expect delays on the outer loop due to drivers looking at the inner loop accident.

8:40 A.M. Update:

Traffic has eased considerably on I-66 East around Nutley Street. There’s still the usual amount of congestion, but traffic is flowing and moving after severe backups slowed that stretch earlier this morning.

Things also seem to have cleared up on Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, where traffic is moving smoothly in both directions now.

A disabled vehicle on the inner loop of the Beltway at Braddock Road is blocking the right shoulder.

I-395 North is typically backed up at the 14th Street Bridge.

8:20 A.M . Update:

An accident on I-295 North at Laboratory Road in SE is blocking the shoulder and not blocking any lanes, but be careful approaching that spot.

8:05 A.M. Update:

The southbound lane on Minnesota Avenue SE and the eastbound lane on Pennsylvania Avenue SE have both reopened, according to D.C. police.

A disabled vehicle on the outer loop of the Beltway at Braddock Road is blocking the right shoulder. Another disabled vehicle on the outer loop near the Springfield Interchange is blocking the right shoulder there as well.

7:50 A.M. Update:

One southbound lane is closed on Minnesota Avenue SE and one eastbound lane is closed on Pennsylvania Avenue SE after two pedestrians were reportedly hit by a vehicle there.

The right lane of inbound Canal Road is blocked after Arizona Avenue NW, according to one driver.

MARC Penn Line train 517 left Baltimore 20 minutes late and is making all stops to BWI. It will then run express service to Washington and only let passengers off during the express service. Train 415 left Baltimore 40 minutes late following train 517, but it will make all stops.

7:30 A.M. update:

Traffic cameras show that Georgia Avenue is moving to the north and south of Silver Spring. If you’re near the Beltway or, to the south, near Eastern Avenue, things are moving. Southbound Georgia Avenue is snarled near Wayne Avenue.

MARC Penn Line train 415 is holding in Baltimore due to mechanical issues. The train will express to BWI when it leaves Baltimore. Train 517 is expected to leave 10 to 12 minutes late and will make all stops.

7:25 A.M. Update:

We’re hearing reports from commuters saying that an accident is blocking Georgia Avenue lanes in downtown Silver Spring. Avoid taking Georgia Avenue through the Silver Spring area if you can help it.

7:10 A.M. Update:

The accident on I-270 South before I-370 has been cleared from the shoulder.

7 A.M. Update:

The accident on I-270 South before I-370 has been moved to the shoulder. The southbound lanes are all open.

6:40 A.M. Update:

An accident on I-270 South before I-370 is blocking one southbound lane.

I-66 East remains slow approaching Nutley Street. An accident is still blocking the left shoulder.

6:20 A.M. Update:

The accident on eastbound I-66 at Nutley Street is blocking the left shoulder. Heavy delays remain in place.

6:15 A.M. Update:

The accident on eastbound I-66 at Nutley Street is blocking the left shoulder and the left lane. There are already heavy delays approaching this spot.

This morning will be a warmer, nice day, with wintry weather arriving tonight and tomorrow, according to the Capital Weather Gang.

So far:

— An accident on eastbound I-66 at Nutley Street could cause delays there. The left shoulder is blocked.
