Monitoring the Friday A.M. commute: I-66 West lanes blocked at Beltway; MARC delays

9:30 a.m. Update | I-66 West lanes remain blocked at Beltway

The accident on westbound I-66 at the Beltway is still blocking the right lane and right shoulder.

An accident at New York and South Dakota avenues in Northeast Washington could create delays there.

9:20 a.m. Update | Accident on U.S. 50 in Md. cleared

The accident on westbound U.S. 50 at the Martin Luther King Jr./MD 704 exit has been cleared and all lanes and the shoulder reopened

9:10 a.m. Update | Accident blocking U.S. 50 lanes in Md.

An accident on westbound U.S. 50 at the Martin Luther King Jr./MD 704 exit is blocking two lanes and one of the shoulders.

The accident on westbound I-66 at the Beltway is still blocking the right lane and right shoulder.

8:55 a.m. Update | Delays on Suitland Parkway

The westbound Suitland Parkway has heavy traffic near DC-295, according to police.

D.C. Police also pass on word from the U.S. Supreme Court Police that 2nd Street NE will be closed for an unspecified amount of time between Constitution Avenue NE and East Capitol Street SE for barricade maintenance

8:35 a.m. Update | One lane reopens on I-66 West at Beltway

One lane has reopened on westbound I-66 at the Beltway, so the crash there is now blocking the right lane and the right shoulder.

8:30 a.m. Update | Accident cleared at New Jersey and New York avenues NW

The accident at New Jersey and New York avenues NW has been cleared from the road, according to the D.C. police.

The accident on I-395 South at the Duke Street exit has also been cleared from the exit ramp.

But the accident on westbound I-66 at the Beltway is still blocking the right two lanes and the right shoulder, so expect major delays there.

8:20 a.m. Update | Another MARC train delayed

MARC Penn line train 419 is running around 15 minutes late due to the late arrival of earlier train 404.

8:15 a.m. Update | I-395 South ramp to Duke Street partially blocked

An accident on I-395 South at the Duke Street exit is partially blocking the ramp to exit 3A.

8:10 a.m. Update | Accident at New Jersey and New York avenues NW

An accident has been reported at New Jersey and New York avenues NW. The two roads intersect right at the northern end of I-395 North in the District, just west of North Capitol Street, so if any lanes are blocked this could create major problems. We’ll update with more as we learn it.

8:05 a.m. Update | I-66 West lanes blocked at Beltway

An accident on westbound I-66 at the Beltway is blocking the right two lanes and the right shoulder. Expect heavy delays heading that way.

The earlier accident on Route 3 at Annapolis Road/MD 450 has been cleared.

8:03 a.m. update | More MARC problems

Headaches continue for MARC Penn Line passengers: Train 523 is canceled from Perryville to Baltimore. Amtrak train 181 will handle those southbound riders.

Train 502 ended service in Baltimore due to mechanical problems, and those riders heading north will be taken on by Amtrak train 172.

7:55 a.m. Update | Accident on U.S. 1 cleared

The accident on northbound U.S. 1/Richmond Highway at Arlington Drive has been cleared and all lanes reopened. Expect some delays if you’re heading north on U.S. 1, but those should clear up shortly.

The disabled vehicle on the outer loop of the Beltway at Braddock Road has been cleared from the road.

The disabled vehicle on I-66 East at the Beltway has also been cleared.

7:40 a.m. Update | Watch for additional I-95 North delays

A disabled vehicle on the I-95 HOV lanes just before the Springfield Interchange is blocking the right shoulder. This area is already slow, but this could exacerbate that as drivers slow down while passing the disabled car.

7:30 a.m. Update | Delays building on I-395 North

Delays are building on I-395 North, and by this point in the morning commuters should expect any congestion to remain in place until rush hour winds down. Things are really slowing down around the 14th Street Bridge, Seminary Road and Duke Street.

The accident on northbound U.S. 1/Richmond Highway at Arlington Drive, between Alexandria and Mount Vernon, is still blocking the right two lanes and right shoulder.

A disabled vehicle on I-66 East at the Beltway is blocking the right shoulder.

A disabled vehicle on the outer loop of the Beltway at Braddock Road is blocking the right shoulder there.

7:25 a.m. Update | Additional MARC issues

MARC Penn Line train 502 is running express service to BWI and will make the stops north on to Perryville, according to the Maryland Transit Administration. Train 404 will make all stops to Baltimore and is running 17 minutes late.

7:15 a.m. Update | MARC delays continue

MARC Penn Line train 502 is now running about 18 to 20 minutes behind due to the earlier mechanical issue, according to the Maryland Transit Administration.

There are still no VRE or Metro delays so far this morning.

7:05 a.m. Update | Delays on I-95 North, I-395 North

I-95 North is badly jammed up approaching the Springfield Interchange.

I-395 North is also slowing down around Seminary Road. As with the delays on I-95 North, these will only get worse as the morning continues.

The disabled vehicle on I-395 North has been cleared.

6:53 a.m. Update | MARC delays

MARC Penn Line train 502 is running 20 minutes late due to mechanical issues.

6:40 a.m. Update | U.S. 1 lanes blocked near Alexandria

An accident on northbound U.S. 1/Richmond Highway at Arlington Drive, between Alexandria and Mount Vernon, is blocking the right two lanes and right shoulder.

A disabled vehicle on I-395 North at Glebe Road is blocking the right shoulder.

6:25 a.m. Update | Delays on I-95 North

An accident on the outer loop of the Beltway at Braddock Road is blocking the right shoulder.

I-95 North is slowing down considerably approaching the Springfield Interchange. These delays should only worsen as the morning continues and more people hit the road.

The Friday forecast calls for a crisp morning and a warmer afternoon, according to the Capital Weather Gang.

So far this morning:

— An accident on Route 3 at Annapolis Road/MD 450 in Crofton is blocking two southbound lanes and one of the shoulders.

— There are no reported Metro, MARC or VRE delays so far this morning.
