Westbound U.S. 50 reopens at Kenilworth Ave.

8:35 A.M. Update:

All lanes have reopened on westbound U.S. 50 at Kenilworth Avenue, but delays do remain on that road.

Ridge Road/MD 27 has reopened at Gue Road in Damascus.

8:30 A.M. Update:

MARC Penn Line train 421 is running 10 to 12 minutes late.

8:02 A.M. Update:

Now we’re hearing that one of the lanes might have reopened on westbound U.S. 50 at Kenilworth Avenue. We’ll update as soon as we can, but you should still avoid that roadway if possible.

8 A.M. Update:

The accident on westbound U.S. 50 at Kenilworth Avenue is definitely blocking all westbound lanes, with traffic only getting by on the right shoulder. Expect heavy delays and avoid that road if possible.

7:45 A.M. Update:

The accident on westbound U.S. 50 at Kenilworth Avenue is now blocking both westbound lanes and one of the shoulders. One of the shoulders appears to be clear for traffic, but it’s uncertain right now if traffic is moving or the severity of delays.

7:35 A.M. Update:

There are a few problems for MARC Penn Line trains this morning. Train 523 is canceled between Perryville and Baltimore, and Amtrak train 181 will make that train’s stops.

Meanwhile, due to train 404’s mechanical issues, train 502 is going to end in Baltimore and run as train 419 (the 7:40 a.m. departure from Baltimore).

7:33 A.M. Update:

An accident on westbound U.S. 50 at Kenilworth Avenue is blocking one lane and one of the shoulders.

7:15 A.M. Update:

An accident is blocking Ridge Road/MD 27 at Gue Road in Damascus.

7:12 A.M. Update:

MARC Penn Line train 404 is on the move, but it’s 18 to 20 minutes behind schedule.

7 A.M. Update:

MARC Penn Line train 404 is running at least 20 minutes late due to a mechanical problem.

6:40 A.M. Update:

A disabled vehicle on I-66 East just inside the Beltway is blocking the right shoulder.

6:15 A.M. Update:

Two MARC trains will run with one car less than usual this morning, which could lead to crowding on the remaining cars. This is happening on Camden Line train 845 and Penn Line train 409.

Another day, another batch of “serious heat and haze,” according to the Capital Weather Gang.

The International AIDS Conference at the Washington Convention Center wraps up today. The conference could impact traffic around the convention center and increase congestion on the Metro, with crowding possible at the Mount Vernon Sq./Convention Center and Gallery Place/Chinatown stops.
