Expect delays around schools; Beach Drive closing

8:30 A.M. Update:

Remember: School is back in session today for students in the District, Montgomery County and Loudoun County. Expect additional traffic around schools in those areas, particularly during the hours right before and after school, and be careful around bus stops.

Also: Tree maintenance on Beach Drive will close a chunk of the roadway this week. Beach Drive will be closed between West Beach Drive NW to the Maryland/D.C. border. The closure will occur on Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

8:10 A.M. Update:

The accident on the northbound G.W. Parkway under the Memorial Bridge has been cleared and all lanes open. Heavy delays remain and stretch back to about Reagan National Airport, so expect headaches to linger there for a while.

8 A.M. Update:

I-66 West is backed up around Sycamore Street, so expect congestion heading that way.

7:50 A.M. Update:

A disabled vehicle on eastbound I-66 shortly before Chain Bridge Road is blocking the right shoulder.

7:40 A.M. Update:

An accident on northbound DC-295 at Firth Sterling Avenue could create delays there.

An accident on northbound U.S. 29 at I-66 East is partially blocking the ramp from U.S. 29 North to I-66 East.

7:20 A.M. Update:

The disabled vehicle on I-270 South at Middlebrook Road has been cleared and all lanes and the shoulder are clear.

A disabled vehicle on I-66 West at Nutley Street is blocking the right shoulder.

7:05 A.M. Update:

An accident on the northbound G.W. Parkway under the Memorial Bridge is blocking the right lane. It’s possible the response is blocking both lanes. This is creating heavy delays, so avoid this road if possible.

6:45 A.M. Update:

A disabled vehicle on I-270 South at Middlebrook Road is blocking one southbound lane and one of the shoulders.

The earlier accident on I-270 North after the exit for I-370 has been cleared from the shoulder.

6:30 A.M. Update:

The accident on I-270 North after the exit for I-370 is back to just blocking one of the shoulders. The local lanes have reopened.

6:15 A.M. Update:

The accident on I-270 North after the exit for I-370 is now blocking both local lanes and two of the shoulders.

Original Post:

Good morning, commuters! We’ll be keeping an eye on the roads and rails this morning, reporting any delays or issues — and we will need your help.

If you see or hear about any congestion, delays or problems, tell us in the comments section below or by tweeting @drgridlock.

The week begins with clouds and a small chance of showers and storms, according to the Capital Weather Gang.

So far:

— MARC Penn Line train 511, which departs Perryville at 5:40 a.m., experienced switch failure near Martin Airport. As a result, the train is canceled at Perryville and Aberdeen and will originate at the Edgewood station. The next train to service the Perryville and Aberdeen stations is train 517, which is set to leave Perryville at 6:30 a.m. and Aberdeen at 6:38 a.m.

— An accident on I-270 North after the exit for I-370 is blocking one of the shoulders.

Also: School is back in session today for students in the District, Montgomery County and Loudoun County. Expect additional traffic around schools in those areas, particularly during the hours right before and after school, and be careful around bus stops.

And, for later this morning: Tree maintenance on Beach Drive will close a chunk of the roadway this week. Beach Drive will be closed between West Beach Drive NW to the Maryland/D.C. border. The closure will occur on Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
