Monitoring the Wednesday morning commute: Little River Turnpike reopened

9:30 a.m. | Little River Turnpike reopened

All lanes have reopened on Little River Turnpike in Annandale, according to Fairfax County Police.

An accident on Dolley Madison Boulevard/VA 123 at Great Falls Street in McLean is blocking the northbound left lane.

One lane remains blocked on southbound 16th Street at Irving Street NW.

9:15 a.m. | Two lanes reopen on 16th Street, one lane still blocked

Two lanes have reopened on southbound 16h Street at Irving Street NW, according to D.C. police. One lane remains blocked, so expect delays to linger for southbound traffic.

9:13 a.m. | Southbound 16th Street remains blocked

Southbound 16th Street NW remains blocked at Irving Street due to a crash. Metro reports that S-line Metrobuses are experiencing delays of up to 40 minutes.

9:10 a.m. | Southbound Wisconsin Avenue lane blocked

A bicyclist was hit by a vehicle in the 400 block of Wisconsin Avenue NW, so one southbound lane is blocked on Wisconsin Avenue, according to D.C. police.

9:05 a.m. | Southbound 16th Street closed in NW D.C.

Southbound 16th Street NW is blocked at Irving Street due to a crash.

9 a.m. | Two Montgomery County teens struck by vehicle, taken to hospital

Two teenagers in Montgomery County were hit by a car and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries this morning, police report.
 
County police say a call came in just after 6:20 a.m. about pedestrians being struck in the 1600 block of East Randolph Road. It appears that a vehicle lost control and went up on the curb, hitting the two teenagers, according to police. Their ages are unknown at this time, and the police had no information yet about the driver. 
 
Police believe the teenagers were walking to a bus stop. Montgomery County is participating in Walk to School Day, an international event encouraging children to walk rather than drive. 

8:50 a.m. | Eastbound Little River Turnpike blocked

Here’s the latest on the Little River Turnpike in Annandale: All eastbound lanes are blocked at Medford Drive, while all westbound lanes are open, according to Fairfax County Police. Earlier this morning, closures blocked lanes in both directions and rerouted traffic due to an accident involving a school bus. 

8:35 a.m. | I-395 North accident cleared

The accident on I-395 North at Duke Street has been cleared from the shoulder.

8:25 a.m. | MARC delays

MARC Penn Line train 421 is seven minutes behind schedule.

8:17 a.m. | Crash on I-295 North

A crash on northbound I-295 at Laboratory Road SE is blocking the center lane and could create problems, D.C. police report.

8:10 a.m. | Avoid the area around the Little River Turnpike in Annandale

The school bus accident on the Little River Turnpike in Annandale is also blocking eastbound traffic, according to commuters. Expect major delays and avoid that area entirely, if you can help it. 

A disabled vehicle on the outbound 14th Street Bridge could create issues there.

The accident on I-395 North at Duke Street has been cleared from the northbound right lane and is now just blocking the right shoulder.

A disabled vehicle was reported on the inner loop of the Beltway near New Hampshire Avenue, but it has been cleared.

MARC Penn Line train 421 is running 10 to 12 minutes late.

8:05 a.m. | Outer loop crash cleared in Md.

The accident on the outer loop of the Beltway at the I-95 split near College Park and Beltsville has been cleared and all lanes reopened.

7:55 a.m. | Crash on I-395 North

An accident on I-395 North at Duke Street is blocking the northbound right lane and right shoulder.

7:50 a.m.  | Little River Turnpike blocked by school bus accident

An accident involving a school bus has shut down westbound Little River Turnpike in Annandale. The bus was carrying about 20 students to Annandale High School when there was an accident involving another vehicle at Medford Drive, according to the Fairfax County Police. The roadway could remain closed until around 8:45 a.m. 

None of the students were injured, and they were taken onto another bus and continued to their nearby school. The driver of the other vehicle has non-life-threatening injuries, police say.

7:47 a.m. | Red Line delays cleared

Metro reports that normal service has resumed on the Red Line at Takoma. 

7:40 a.m. | Red Line delayed

Red Line trains are delayed in both directions due to an earlier train malfunction at Takoma.

7:35 a.m. | Westbound Little River Turnpike still closed in Annandale

Westbound Little River Turnpike remains closed at Medford Drive in Annandale. Metrobuses on routes 3A, 16A, 16B, 29C, 29G, 29K and 29N should expect delays. 

A disabled vehicle on the outer loop of the Beltway at the Springfield Interchange is blocking the right shoulder.

7:25 a.m. | Crash cleared from inner loop in Va.

The accident on the inner loop of the Beltway at Braddock Road has been cleared from the shoulder.

7:24 a.m. | Outer loop ramp still partially blocked in Md.

The accident on the outer loop of the Beltway at the I-95 split near College Park and Beltsville is now blocking one of the right off-ramps as well as the two left merge lanes.

7:21 a.m. | Accident on outer loop in Md. 

An accident on the outer loop of the Beltway at the I-95 split near College Park and Beltsville is blocking two off-ramps at the exit. Expect delays.

7:17 a.m. | Disabled vehicle on I-395 North

A disabled vehicle on I-395 North at Glebe Road is blocking the right shoulder.

7:16 a.m. | Inner loop lane reopens in Virginia

The crash on the inner loop of the Beltway at Braddock Road is now just blocking the right shoulder. All Beltway lanes have reopened there. 

7:11 a.m. | Inner loop lanes blocked in Va.

An accident on the inner loop of the Beltway at Braddock Road is blocking the left lane and left shoulder.

7:07 a.m. Westbound Little River Turnpike blocked in Annandale

The accident on the westbound Little River Turnpike at Medford Drive in Annandale is now blocking all westbound lanes and the shoulders. Avoid the area and expect major delays approaching this area.

6:58 a.m. | Crash on Little River Turnpike

A crash on the westbound Little River Turnpike at Medford Drive in Annandale is blocking the westbound right lane and right shoulder.

6:53 a.m. | Crash on U.S. 50 in Chantilly moved

The accident on westbound Lee Jackson Highway/U.S. 50 at Stringfellow Road in Chantilly has been moved from the westbound center lane to the right shoulder.

6:43 a.m. | Expect issues on I-395 North before 14th Street Bridge

A disabled vehicle on I-395 North near Washington Boulevard is now blocking the left center lane. It’s unclear if this is the same vehicle that was blocking the right lane earlier or if this is a separate incident, but expect delays heading this way.

6:33 a.m. | Disabled vehicle on I-395 North

An accident on westbound Lee Jackson Highway/U.S. 50 at Stringfellow Road in Chantilly is blocking the westbound center lane.

6:18 a.m. | Woodley Park escalators restored

The Woodley Park escalators are working again, according to Metro.

6:05 a.m.  | Woodley Park escalators out

All escalators are out of service at the Woodley Park station. The station remains open and the elevator is still working.

Good morning, commuters! We’ll be keeping an eye on the roads and rails this morning, reporting any delays or issues — and we will need your help.

After rain slowed Tuesday morning’s commute, we’re in for lots of fog during the Wednesday morning one, according to the Capital Weather Gang. There could also be some rain, so watch for delays stemming from that.
