Navy Yard Metro station closing early on Saturday

Metro will close the Navy Yard station early on Saturday night for a security drill.

The station, which normally closes at 3 a.m. on Saturday night (which is really early Sunday morning), will instead close at 10 p.m. so the Metro Transit Police, the FBI and other law enforcement groups can conduct the drill. The station will reopen at 7 a.m. Sunday.

Green Line service won’t be affected. Trains will still run in both directions through the station, even though they won’t stop there after 10 p.m.

There will be a free shuttle bus running between the Navy Yard and Waterfront stations after 10 p.m. on Saturday, but if you’re using a shuttle make sure you add at least 15 minutes to your trip.

In addition to the station closing on Saturday night, the Half Street entrance will close at 7 p.m. Saturday. It will reopen at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

Riders will have to use the New Jersey Avenue entrance between 7 and 10 p.m. Saturday and again between 7 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
