New Fairfax parkway ramp opening

Drivers in the Newington community off Interstate 95 in Virginia are about to see an additional benefit from the project that has extended the eastern side of the Fairfax County Parkway.

On Wednesday afternoon, weather permitting, the Virginia Department of Transportation will open up new interchange ramps connecting Boudinot Drive with the parkway.

The interchange will give motorists access to Boudinot Drive from the northbound parkway and from the southbound parkway to Boudinot Drive, Alban Road and southbound I-95.

This area is near the Engineer Proving Ground, one of the sites getting more employees this year under the military’s Base Realignment and Closing program.

The final phase of the parkway project at Rolling Road and Hooes Road is scheduled to open in 2012.
