New York Ave. Bridge closure on Saturday could lead to major headaches

We have posted about this before, but since it could lead to severe delays this weekend we wanted to remind everyone: New York Avenue NE will be closed between Florida Avenue and Penn Street on Saturday from 1 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The road closure, which will begin in the waning hours of Friday night (or, depending on your perspective, the wee hours of Saturday morning), will likely lead to severe delays on Saturday until the closure is lifted at 5 p.m.

Detours will be in place for New York Avenue traffic:

— Westbound traffic will be moved at Penn Street to Sixth Street and Florida Avenue before being allowed back on New York Avenue.

— Eastbound traffic will be shifted at Florida Avenue to Sixth and Penn streets NE before returning to New York Avenue.

Avoid even approaching these detours if you can. Try Rhode Island Avenue, H Street, Maryland Avenue or any other road that keeps you away from this closure.

This closure is part of the New York Avenue Bridge rehabilitation project.
