The Friday nights when Metro starts its big weekend shutdowns for maintenance are almost always the most difficult times for riders to deal with. They may have traveled one way with regular service only to find that they must adjust their plans on the way back because certain stations have since closed.
Look here for full details and a map about the closings of four stations on the Orange and Blue lines for the entire Memorial Day weekend. The stations will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday through midnight on Monday, with normal service resuming at 5 a.m. Tuesday.
This posting explains what riders need to know about the Friday night train service and notes the last connections of each weekend night with the free Metro shuttle buses bridging the gaps in rail service.
Orange Line: The last Orange Line train leaving New Carrollton before the line is split in two by the station shutdowns at 10 p.m. is scheduled to depart for Vienna at 9:33 p.m. If it stays on schedule, it will reach Cheverly at 9:39 p.m., Minnesota Ave at 9:43 p.m., Federal Center SW at 9:54 p.m. and Rosslyn at 10:08 p.m., arriving in Vienna at 10:30 p.m.

Last departures from Federal Center SW
After the lines are split by the station shutdowns, night owls will need to pay attention to the special timing on the final train departures. The timings are different because the trains need to coordinate their departures with the arrival of shuttle buses at Federal Center SW. So at the end of each night’s rail service this weekend, the last Blue and Orange Line trains traveling in the direction of Vienna and Franconia-Springfield will depart 30 minutes earlier than usual.
That means no more trains out of Federal Center SW after 2:57 a.m. Saturday and Sunday for the night owl service. Then on Sunday and Monday nights, when the system shuts at midnight, the last trains are scheduled to leave at 11:57 p.m.
