Inner loop backed up in McLean; Canal Road closure canceled

9:35 A.M. Update:

The inner loop of the Beltway is jammed near U.S. 50 heading toward I-66.

There are delays on the BW Parkway northbound before Suitland Parkway.

Southbound I-270 is sluggish out of Urbana towards Md. 109.

8:45 A.M. Update:

The earlier accident at 23rd and Eye (I) streets in Northwest Washington has been cleared and all lanes reopened.

The inner loop of the Beltway is still very, very congested approaching Tysons Corner this morning. An earlier vehicle fire has been cleared and the lanes that were closed have reopened, but extensive delays remain.

I-95 North was jammed up approaching the Springfield Interchange earlier this morning due to lane closures there, but traffic now flowing smoothly through that spot.

An accident at East Capitol Street and Benning Road in Northeast Washington could cause issues there.

An accident at Georgia Avenue and Sheridan Street in Northwest Washington could cause similar delays

And in case you missed it: Canal Road will not be closed from Arizona Avenue to Foxhall Road in Northwest Washington for maintenance work today, as had previously been reported. This closure was canceled because the maintenance was completed on Thursday.

8:35 A.M. Update:

The accident on the inner loop of the Beltway after Rockville Pike has been cleared.

The debris on westbound U.S. 50 after Church Road that was blocking one of the lanes and one of the shoulders has been cleared and everything reopened

8:30 A.M. Update:

Two northbound lanes have reopened on 23rd Street at Eye (I) Street, according to the District Department of Transportation.

8:20 A.M. Update:

The earlier accident at 23rd and Eye (I) streets NW is blocking northbound 23rd Street. Expect heavy delays approaching this spot and seek alternate routes.

8:05 A.M. Update:

An accident on the inner loop of the Beltway after Rockville Pike is blocking one of the shoulders. Watch out for delays there.

Accidents at Wisconsin Avenue and Garfield Street NW and at Michigan and South Dakota avenues NE are causing delays, according to D.C. police.

7:50 A.M. Update:

An accident at 23rd and Eye (I) streets NW is slowing traffic, according to D.C. police.

An accident in the 1400 block of Kenilworth Avenue NE coud also cause issues.

7:30 A.M. Update:

The accident on the outer loop of the Beltway before Colesville Road has also been cleared.

7:25 A.M. Update:

The vehicle fire on the inner loop of the Beltway at Leesburg Pike has been cleared, but the inner loop is still a mess heading to this area.

The accident on I-95 North just before the Springfield Interchange has been cleared from the shoulder, but heavy delays remain approaching this spot.

7:10 A.M. Update:

An accident on the outer loop of the Beltway before Colesville Road is blocking one lane and one of the shoulders.

The vehicle fire on the inner loop of the Beltway at Leesburg Pike is now blocking the right lane; the right center lane has reopened.

6:55 A.M. Update:

The vehicle fire on the inner loop of the Beltway at Leesburg Pike is still blocking the right two lanes and causing heavy congestion.

6:40 A.M. Update:

The accident on I-95 North just before the Springfield Interchange is now only blocking the right shoulder. Expect some residual delays from the two lane closures earlier.

A disabled vehicle on I-395 North at King Street is blocking the right shoulder.

6:20 A.M. Update:

An accident on I-95 North just before the Springfield Interchange is blocking the right center lane, right lane and right shoulder.

A vehicle fire on the inner loop of the Beltway at Leesburg Pike is blocking the right two lanes. The inner loop is already pretty slow as you approach this area.

The disabled vehicle on the outer loop of the Beltway at I-66 has been cleared.

The accident on the inner loop of the Beltway at Chain Bridge Road has also been cleared.

Good morning, commuters! We’ll be keeping an eye on the roads and rails this morning, reporting any delays or issues — and we will need your help. If you hear about any congestion, delays, problems or anything at all, tell us in the comments section below or by tweeting @drgridlock.

It will be cooler and windier today, with a chance of showers tonight that could eve include a few snowflakes, according to the Capital Weather Gang.

So far:

— An accident on the inner loop of the Beltway at Chain Bridge Road is blocking the right lane.

— A disabled vehicle on the outer loop of the Beltway at I-66 is blocking the left lane.

And once again, Canal Road will be closed from Arizona Avenue to Foxhall Road in Northwest Washington for maintenance work from 10:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. Traffic will be detoured to Arizona Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard. The road was also closed Thursday during that period. [7:45 A.M. UPDATE: This work has been canceled, as the maintenance was completed on Thursday, according to the District Department of Transportation.]
