Outer loop lanes reopen at Telegraph Road

3:41 p.m. Update: While all lanes are open, traffic cameras show that heavy congestion remains.

1:30 p.m. Update: The outer loop has reopened, but expect delays to continue as normal traffic patterns resume.

12:23 p.m. Update: It’s still a slow slog from the Mixing Bowl to Telegraph Road. Traffic is moving, but reporting services estimate speeds are less than 15 mph.

12:08 p.m. Update: Delays on the outer loop in Virginia currently extend from Interstate 395 to the site of the accident at Telegraph Road. It’s unclear if any traffic is currently getting by the scene or if everyone is being detoured.

11:55 a.m. Update: State and local officials are reporting that the outer loop is closed at Telegraph Road due to the tractor-trailer accident and an ensuing fuel spill. Traffic is being detoured. Expect delays. Drivers should avoid the area, taking the American Legion Bridge crossing or I-395 to U.S. 50, or other routes, to reach points in Maryland.

11:50 a.m. Update: Traffic is being detoured to Telegraph Road, then to Huntington Avenue, to U.S. 1, and then back to the outer loop. Backups extend four miles, according to transportation officials.

Original post: The outer loop is partially closed at Telegraph Road due to a tractor-trailer accident. Backups extend about three miles, according to Virginia transportation officials. .
