Inner loop lanes heavily backed up in VA

9 A.M. Update:

The disabled vehicle on the outer loop at Riggs Road has been cleared.

Problems persist on I-395 North at the 14th Street Bridge and I-66 East at the Teddy Roosevelt Bridge.

The inner loop of the Beltway remains snarled in Virginia. I-95 North is also still very backed up approaching the Springfield Interchange.

8:35 A.M. Update:

The disabled vehicle on the outer loop at Riggs Road is now blocking one lane and one of the shoulders.

I-395 North is jammed up at the 14th Street Bridge, while I-66 East is also crawling at the Teddy Roosevelt Bridge.

8:10 A.M. Update:

A disabled vehicle on the outer loop of the Beltway is blocking one lane at Riggs Road.

8 A.M. Update:

An accident on southbound I-295 at the Pennsylvania Avenue exit is blocking up traffic in that spot; seek an alternate route if possible.

7:35 A.M. Update:

The backups in Virginia continue unabated, causing quite a few commuting problems in the Commonwealth. The current issues:

— Massive delays on the inner loop of the Beltway from the Springfield Interchange on to Arlington Boulevard

— Big backups on I-95 North approaching the Springfield Interchange as well as exiting Woodbridge

— I-66 East is also pretty stalled approaching the Beltway

— And I-395 North has spots of congestion as well

And a misty rain falling in parts of Northern Virginia right now is sure to add to these delays.

7:15 A.M. Update:

The accident on the outer loop of the Beltway before Georgia Avenue has been cleared.

7 A.M. Update:

The inner loop delays are stretching as far back as the Springfield Interchange. Expect major headaches and try to avoid it if you can.

6:45 A.M. Update:

The accident on the inner loop of the Beltway has been cleared and the lanes reopened. However, there are still heavy delays approaching Arlington Boulevard.

6:20 A.M. Update:

There are heavy delays on I-95 North, with backups approaching the Springfield Interchange as well as leaving Woodbridge. You can expect these delays to linger for a bit.

I-66 East is very, very backed up at the Beltway, unusually so for this time in the morning. If you can add extra time to your trip, seek alternate routes or leave a little later, it’s advisable..

Original Post:

Good morning, commuters! We’re in for a cloudy and potentially rainy morning, according to the Capital Weather Gang. The rain should be gone by the afternoon, but the cloudy skies will remain for a while.

We’ll be keeping tabs on the commute all morning, rounding up any headaches, issues or problems we hear about. Let us know anything you see out there — tell us in the comments below or via Twitter (@DrGridlock).

So far:

An accident involving a tractor trailer on the inner loop of the Beltway at Arlington Boulevard is blocking the left lane and left shoulder.

Meanwhile, I-66 East is already heavily backed up approaching the Beltway.

And an accident on the outer loop of the Beltway before Georgia Avenue is blocking one of the shoulders. This could cause delays approaching that spot.
