Delays linger on outer loop at Colesville Rd.

8:40 A.M. Update:

An accident on southbound Columbia Pike/U.S. 29 at Fairland Road is blocking two southbound lanes and one of the shoulders.

The outer loop of the Beltway is still very congested approaching Colesville Road, but the delays have lessened somewhat. It’s still slow, but not as slow.

There was an accident on inbound New York Avenue near Bladensburg Road. All lanes are open, according to D.C. police.

An accident on South Dakota Avenue at Vista Street NE is blocking one southbound lane on South Dakota Avenue.

8:15 A.M. Update:

The disabled vehicle on the inner loop of the Beltway at the Leesburg Pike has been moved from the right lane to the right shoulder.

The earlier accident on the outer loop of the Beltway at the Springfield Interchange has been cleared.

An accident on the inner loop of the Beltway at Georgia Avenue is blocking one of the shoulders.

8 A.M. Update:

The outer loop of the Beltway is still heavily congested approaching Colesville Road. Expect delays heading that way.

A disabled vehicle on the inner loop of the Beltway at the Leesburg Pike is blocking the left lane.

7:40 A.M. Update:

The accident on the outer loop of the Beltway after Connecticut Avenue has been cleared and the lanes reopened.

The right lane has reopened on the outer loop of the Beltway at Colesville Road. Only the right shoulder remains blocked.

Traffic is still very, very jammed on the outer loop of the Beltway approaching Colesville Road. Expect heavy delays if you’re heading out any time soon.

Another accident has been reported on the outer loop of the Beltway at Colesville Road, this one also on one of the shoulders.

Southbound Metrobuses on “Z” routes are still running up to 20 minutes late due to the earlier accident on the outer loop at Colesville Road.

7:20 A.M. Update:

An accident on the outer loop of the Beltway after Connecticut Avenue is blocking two lanes and one of the shoulders.

The earlier accident on the outer loop at Colesville Road is still blocking one lane and causing delays. That accident, which occurred at about 2 a.m., killed one person and injured another. Maggie Fazeli Fard has the story on the Crime Scene blog.

7 A.M. Update:

The disabled vehicle on the outer loop of the Beltway at New Hampshire Avenue has been cleared.

6:55 A.M. Update:

There’s a disabled vehicle on the outer loop of the Beltway at New Hampshire Avenue. No lane closures have been reported yet, but this area has major congestion stemming back from the earlier accident at Colesville Road, so it could exacerbate those issues.

6:35 A.M. Update:

An accident on the outer loop of the Beltway at the Springfield Interchange is blocking the left shoulder of the off-ramp to I-95 South. Expect this to cause some delays.

Traffic is still very jammed up on the outer loop of the Beltway from Colesville Road back to New Hampshire Avenue.

6:22 A.M. Update:

The left three lanes are open now on the Beltway at Colesville Road. Only one outer loop lane and the right shoulder remain closed.

6:20 A.M. Update:

Outer loop update: The left two lanes and left shoulder have reopened at Colesville Road.

6:15 A.M. Update:

Traffic is now moving more on the outer loop of the Beltway at Colesville Road., though it’s unclear how many lanes have reopened. There are still very, very heavy delays from Colesville Road to before New Hampshire Avenue.

Metro reports that the Red Line delays have cleared, but watch for any lingering issues heading to Glenmont.

Good morning, commuters! We’ll be keeping an eye on the roads and rails this morning, reporting any delays or issues — and we will need your help. If you hear about any congestion, delays, problems or anything at all, tell us in the comments section below or by tweeting @drgridlock.

It’s going to be a wet, chilly morning, according to the Capital Weather Gang. Expect scattered rain showers this morning, with the showers decreasing later in the afternoon. But it’s going to be cold and windy out there.

So far:

— The outer loop of the Beltway is closed at Colesville Road due to an accident. Traffic is being diverted onto southbound Colesville Road/U.S. 29. Expect major congestion approaching this spot on the outer loop, in addition to congestion on Colesville Road and other surrounding roads.

Metro warns to expect delays on the following southbound routes: Z2, Z6, Z8, Z9, Z11, Z13 and Z29.

— There are going to be some residual Red Line delays heading to Glenmont due to a switch problem at Van Ness.
