Outer loop lanes slow in MD

8:35 A.M. Update:

A pedestrian was struck in the 2300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue SE. All lanes have reopened after two lanes were closed earlier, but expect delays to linger.

An accident on I-95 South before Branch Avenue is blocking the left shoulder.

The outer loop of the Beltway remains pretty slow near Silver Spring.

8:20 A.M. Update:

An accident on the inner loop of the Beltway is blocking the right shoulder at the Little River Turnpike.

7:55 A.M. Update:

The accident on northbound I-295 at Howard Road SE is still slowing traffic near the District/Maryland border, according to D.C. police. Avoid the area if you can.

7:40 A.M. Update:

The outer loop of the Beltway is still pretty congested near Silver Spring. Traffic is moving, but it’s fairly slow and very crowded.

Traffic is also moving slowly on the northbound Frederick Douglass Bridge in Southeast Washington right now.

Eastbound I-66 is very, very backed up before Chain Bridge Road.

7:25 A.M. Update:

An accident on northbound I-295 at Howard Road SE is slowing traffic in that area.

The accident on I-270 South has been cleared.

7:10 A.M. Update:

Red Line riders should expect continued delays due to the earlier train malfunction at Tenleytown, according to Metro.

An accident on I-270 South between Shady Grove Road and W. Montgomery Avenue is blocking one of the shoulders and could cause delays.

6:55 A.M. Update:

All lanes are open in the southbound Third Street Tunnel, but traffic is moving very slowly, according to D.C. police.

6:50 A.M. Update:

Red Line trains are single-tracking between the Friendship Heights and Van Ness stations due to a disabled train at Tenleytown. There are delays in both directions.

6:40 A.M. Update:

The accident in the southbound Third Street Tunnel is blocking lanes and severely slowing traffic heading into the tunnel. Avoid this route if you can help it.

6:30 A.M. Update:

An accident on northbound Branch Avenue/MD 5 at Earnshaw Drive in Brandywine is blocking one northbound lane and one of the shoulders.

An accident has been reported in the southbound Third Street Tunnel.

6:10 A.M. Update:

The accident on the outer loop of the Beltway before Georgia Avenue has been cleared and the lanes reopened. Traffic is still slow approaching this spot.

Good morning, commuters! Welcome back to the grind after a pair of holiday weekends. For many of you, Tuesday is your first day back at work after holiday travel and taking some time off. And it’s going to be a cold one — the coldest day of the winter thus far, according to the Capital Weather Gang.

We’ll be keeping an eye on the roads and rails this morning, reporting any delays or issues — and we will need your help. If you hear about any congestion, delays, problems or anything at all, tell us in the comments section below or by tweeting @drgridlock.

So far this morning:

— An accident on the outer loop of the Beltway before Georgia Avenue is blocking one lane and one of the shoulders. The outer loop is jammed up approaching this spot.

— I-95 North is backed up near the Fairfax County Parkway.
