Parking fees to increase in Silver Spring

Parking in Silver Spring is about to get a little more expensive. New parking rates going into effect on Jan. 1, will increase the cost of long-term parking by 10 cents.

Short-term parking (four hours or less) will continue to be 75 cents an hour. Long-term parking (more than four hours) goes up to 60 cents an hour.

The rate increase was approved by the Montgomery City Council as part of the budget for the 2012 fiscal year. The council approved a similar fee increase in Bethesda, which went into effect on July 1.
