A man was pronounced dead at King Street Station after being struck by a subway train about 5:40 p.m. Friday, Metro officials said.
Commuters experienced significant delays on Metro’s Yellow and Blue lines following the incident. Trains were being turned back at “strategic locations to maintain service,” Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said.
Based on witness accounts, the man appeared to have intentionally placed himself in front of the train, Stessel said. The incident happened on the inbound track.
Trains were single-tracking between Braddock and Van Dorn Street stations and Braddock and Huntington stations. However, Metro briefly had to stop all trains to access the scene.
The train involved in the incident was cleared to leave about 7 p.m. and taken out of service, Stessel said.
