Renovations commence at VRE Franconia station

Renovations will begin Thursday on the Franconia/Springfield Virginia Railway Express station.

VRE officials said construction crews will be renovating the stairs and platform for the next three months. The work will be done outside of peak travel times, but passengers should pay attention to any construction signs and be careful near fences and temporary blockades.

At some point, VRE officials said, they will need to close the stairs on the VRE side. A temporary stair structure will be opened for passengers adjacent to the existing stairs. The elevator will remain open.

Because the whole station will be repainted, VRE said passengers should not lock their bicycles to the back of the station and need to remove any locks on the railing. Any bike or lock that remains on Sept. 23 will be cut and removed, VRE officials said.
