Road work affecting Rockville Pike in Bethesda

Drivers in Bethesda should watch out for nighttime lane closures on Rockville Pike/MD 355 beginning this week.

The lane closures will occur on the stretch of Rockville Pike between Cedar Lane and Jones Bridge Road, right next to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. This is between downtown Bethesda and the Beltway.

The work will occur between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. Southbound single lane closures will begin at 9 p.m. and these lanes should reopen by 5 a.m. each morning. On the northbound side, single lane closures will begin at 8 p.m., while double lane closures will start at 10 p.m.

This work, which is part of changes caused by the military’s base realignment and closure process, is scheduled to last until the late spring. It will involve installing manholes, replacing sections of underground pipe and pouring concrete; as a result, some of the work will involve jackhammers and other equipment that will create a lot of noise.

If you have any questions about traffic on this stretch, call the Maryland State Highway Administration at 301-513-7300 or e-mail shadistrict3@sha.state.md.us.
