A Sept. 11 memorial motorcycle ride is going to pass through this region over the weekend, potentially causing severe traffic congestion in the area. The organizers are expecting about 3,000 participants, so this could seriously impact people heading to work or leaving town for a vacation.
Drivers, are you changing any plans due to the anticipated traffic problems? If you’re changing your schedule or just bracing for delays, we want to hear from you. E-mail Katherine Shaver at shaverk [at] washpost [dot] com or use this page to let her know.
This is the part of the planned route and how it could impact you (for more details on the route’s other highlights, head here). Pay particular attention to Friday afternoon:
FRIDAY
• 8:45 a.m.: East on I-68 from Cumberland, Md., to I-70 to Exit 28 for Hagerstown.
• 12:30 p.m.: I-70 east to exit 52A, for Route 15/340 south.
• 2 p.m.: Arrive at Leesburg, then take the Dulles Greenway and the Dulles Toll Road east to I-66 to Route 110 to Pentagon.
This leg of the trip could have the biggest impact on traffic, because it will be spanning key commuting arteries on a Friday afternoon. Some things to expect:
— Riders will be in the far left lane of the Dulles Greenway, while general traffic will stick to the far right lane.
— Heavy congestion is expected for travelers going to and from Dulles airport on Friday, but riders will remain in the far left eastbound lanes of the Dulles Toll Road.
— Eastbound I-66 will be temporarily closed from the Beltway to southbound Route 110, and heavy delays are expected on I-66 and I-495.
SATURDAY
• 6:45 a.m.: Leave the Pentagon for I-395 north to I-295 to the Baltimore-Washington Parkway to I-95 north to the Maryland House rest area.
• 9:30 a.m.: Leave Maryland House on I-95 north to Delaware.
