Southern Avenue closed in SE DC

8:45 A.M. Update:

Southern Avenue remains closed in both directions near 13th Street in Southeast Washington due to the fatal accident earlier this morning not far from the Southern Avenue Metro station.

An accident at Riggs and Blair roads in Northwest Washington might cause traffic issues there. And an accident at New York and New Jersey avenues in Northwest could also cause delays.

8:25 A.M. Update:

There’s a disabled vehicle on I-95 North before the Fairfax County Parkway; it’s only blocking the shoulder, but it could cause some delays.

A disabled vehicle at 14th Street and Military Road in Northwest Washington could cause problems around that intersection.

8:05 A.M. Update:

Southern Avenue remains closed in both directions near 13th Street in Southeast Washington due to the fatal accident earlier this morning not far from the Southern Avenue Metro station.

7:45 A.M. Update:

The accident has been cleared from southbound I-270 before W. Montgomery Avenue.

Delays are starting to crop up on eastbound I-66 at the Beltway.

7:25 A.M. Update:

Southern Avenue is still closed in both directions due to the accident in the 1300 block of Southern Avenue SE.

7:05 A.M. Update:

The accident on southbound I-270 is still blocking one local lane and one of the shoulders before W. Montgomery Avenue. Expect delays heading that way.

6:45 A.M. Update:

An accident on southbound I-270 before W. Montgomery Avenue is blocking one local lane and one of the shoulders.

6:35 A.M. Update:

Northbound Colesville Road has completely reopened at University Boulevard in Silver Spring.

The accident in the 1300 block of Southern Avenue SE involved a single car hitting a pole, and two people may have been killed, according to the D.C. Fire Department. Southern Avenue remains closed in both directions.

6:20 A.M. Update:

An accident on northbound Colesville Road at University Boulevard in Silver Spring is blocking all northbound lanes just north of the Beltway.

So far:

An accident involving a car hitting a pole at 1310 Southern Avenue in Southeast Washington has shut down the roadway in both directions. This is right in front of the United Medical Center, just south of the Southern Avenue Metro station. Expect major delays and avoid this area.

One southbound lane and one of the shoulders remain blocked on Frederick Avenue after Peony Drive in Gaithersburg due to a utility problem.
