Suspicious package cleared near Navy Yard

Update 6:25 p.m.: The Navy Yard station entrance is back open after a suspicious package in a trash can nearby was found to be innocuous. Streets that were shut down are reopening now, police say.

Earlier: M Street SE is all jammed up due to a police situation.

The Navy Yard Metro Station’s New Jersey street entrance is closed while a suspicious package is investigated. The Half street entrance remains open.

Police are investigating in the 200 block of M Street SE, and some streets in area may be cordoned off, including the 1100 block of New Jersey Ave. and 3rd & 4th streets at M, officials said.

Service on the Union Station to Navy Yard Circulator is also being affected.
