Traffic pattern change on Pennsylvania Ave. SE

Fourth of July street closures | Gridlock’s getaway tips

Traveling the Bay Bridge | Fewer people plan to drive

At noon today, the District Department of Transportation is going to temporarily change the traffic pattern on Pennsylvania Avenue SE to accommodate extra traffic outbound for the long July 4th weekend.

From the Sousa Bridge over the Anacostia River to Southern Avenue, Pennsylvania Avenue will have two lanes of eastbound traffic and one lane of westbound traffic starting at noon and ending at 6:30 p.m. After that, the travel lanes will be switched back to their normal configuration, with two lanes inbound and one lane outbound.

On Monday at 7:30 pm, the traffic pattern will change again, to one lane westbound and two lanes eastbound to accommodate people leaving the District after the fireworks. This traffic pattern will remain through 6 a.m. Tuesday.

The District Department of Transportation is suspending scheduled road work at noon today and resuming at noon Tuesday.
