Transit changes for Columbus Day

Monday is Columbus Day, and any federal holiday brings with it transit and transportation changes. Here are some things you need to keep in mind if you still have to go to work or need to travel Monday:

Metro weekend work/schedule

Metrorail will run a Saturday holiday schedule, opening at 5 a.m. and closing at midnight. Metrobus will run a Saturday supplemental schedule, which means some routes won’t run. Check   the bus timetables   to see if your particular route is running.

Something to keep in mind: While Metro nixed several station closures that the agency had originally planned for this weekend, there will still be track work, as Robert “Dr. Gridlock” Thomson has reported. And because it’s a holiday, this work will continue until the system closes at midnight Monday.

Red Line trains will share a track between Judiciary Square and Fort Totten. Trains will run between Glenmont and Shady Grove every 26 minutes over the long weekend, per Metro. But between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday, trains should arrive at platforms between Shady Grove and Judiciary Square every 13 minutes. Add about 20 minutes to your travel time on the eastern portion of the line; add about 10 minutes if you’re traveling through downtown or on the western side.

Orange Line trains are going to share a track between Stadium-Armory and Cheverly. During the day Saturday, Sunday and Monday, every other train from Vienna will only go as far as Stadium-Armory before turning around. Add about 15 minutes to your trip if you’re east of Stadium-Armory.

MARC

There will be no Maryland Area Regional Commuter train service Monday.

VRE

The Virginia Railway Express will not run Monday.

Arlington Transit

Arlington Transit will run ART routes 41, 4251, 77 and 87 on Saturday schedules. No other ART routes will operate.

DASH

Alexandria’s DASH system will run a Saturday schedule Monday.

Fairfax Connector

The Fairfax Connector is running a holiday weekday schedule Monday.

Loudoun County Transit

This bus service will run a reduced schedule Monday. You can check out the full schedule   here .

OmniRide

There will be limited OmniRide bus service Monday. Check the schedule to see what routes will be running.

Ride On

Montgomery County’s Ride On service will run a normal weekday schedule Monday.

TheBus

TheBus in Prince George’s County will run mostly normal service Monday. The exceptions: Routes 51, 52 and 53 won’t operate.
