Tysons Boulevard closing Thursday night

Tysons Boulevard is scheduled to close in both directions at Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) Thursday night for work associated with the extension of Metrorail to Dulles International Airport and Loudoun County.

Crews will be moving a 750-ton crane across the road, officials said.

Here’s the planned schedule for the closing:

8 p.m. Thursday: The two-turn lanes from southbound Route 123 to westbound Tysons Boulevard and the left-turn lane from northbound 123 will close. Crews will be laying mats to prevent damage to the road as the crane crosses.

10 p.m. Thursday: The turn lanes from Galleria Drive to eastbound Tysons Boulevard will close, along with the cessation of traffic to eastbound Tysons Boulevard. Work continues on the crane mats.

Midnight to 2 a.m. Friday: The crane will cross Tysons Boulevard to the work zone near the Tysons Central 123 Station.

2 to 5 a.m. Friday: Crews will remove the mats and reopen the lanes to traffic.

If weather delays the move, the work will be rescheduled for Monday, officials said.
