Va. breaks ground on state’s tallest bridges

BREAKS, Va. — A highway project in Buchanan County will feature the tallest bridges in Virginia when it’s completed.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says the twin bridges on the Route 460 Connector each will be more than 250 feet high. The bridges will span Route 610 and Grass Creek in the southwestern part of the state.

The Bristol Herald Courier reports that state officials held a ceremonial groundbreaking for the project’s first phase Tuesday.

The transportation department says the work is expected to be completed in August.
