VRE asks to reopen Broad Run station road for afternoon commuters

Virginia Railway Express officials are working with local police and state transportation officials in Prince William County to try to reopen a road near the railway’s Broad Run station that was closed due to flooding Tuesday.

Piper Lane, which is one of two roads in and out of the Broad Run station in Bristow, was closed due to high water early in the day, said VRE spokesman Mark Roeber.

Crews have inspected the road and hope local officials reopen it, now that flooding has receded and commuters are on the way back home.

“We’re hopeful the police will come out, look it over, and remove the ‘closed’ signs sooner rather than later,” Roeber said.

Many county residents had a hectic commute Tuesday due to serious accidents on I-95 and a dam threatening to flood. More rain is expected Tuesday night for the area, according to the National Weather Service.

Update 7:20 pm: Piper Lane has been reopened and train riders have been using the road for about an hour, Roeber said.
