BW Parkway traffic flowing normally

3:30 P.M. Update: Traffic services are reporting normal flow on the Baltimore Washington Parkway after the closure this afternoon. State Highway officials said the parkway reopened about 2:10 p.m.

1:05 P.M. Update: The Maryland State Highway Administration is closing the Baltimore-Washington Parkway northbound at Interstate 195 for about 90 minutes, officials said, to remove an overhead sign.

Northbound 295 will be detoured to westbound 195, where drivers can connect with U.S. 1 or I-95. Drivers will still be able to access Baltimore-Washington International Marshall Airport from I-195.

Officials said in a statement that the fall of a sign on Interstate 66 in Virginia last month triggered inspections in Maryland of similar signs. The one on the BW Parkway was identified as being of the same type, officials said. Other signs have been inspected and are safe, state officials said.

Crews will install a temporary ground-level sign to provide, the SHA said.

An accident on I-95 North just before the Springfield Interchange is blocking the left center lane.

A disabled vehicle on the inner loop of the Beltway at Gallows Road is blocking the right shoulder.

All lanes on Braddock Road should be reopened near Burke Station Road; earlier this morning, a vehicle fire snarled westbound traffic around this spot.

Reminder: Don’t be alarmed if you see a heightened police presence on I-95 later this morning between Chesterfield and Caroline counties. It’s due to a Virginia State Police graduation set for 10 a.m.

8:22 A.M. Update:

All traffic signals have been restored, according to D.C. police.

Traffic signals are out on Alabama Avenue at Irving Street, Irving Place and 24th Street in Southeast Washington, according to D.C. police.

An accident on Woodfield and Warfield roads in Laytonville is blocking both roads in both directions. Try using Olney Laytonsville Road/MD 108 rather than Woodfield Road.

7:35 A.M. Update:

The accident on I-270 North after Quince Orchard Road is blocking one of the shoulders. All northbound lanes are open.

7:20 A.M. Update:

An accident on I-270 North after Quince Orchard Road is blocking two northbound lanes.

7 A.M. Update:

The vehicle fire on westbound Braddock Road near Burke Station Road continues to block westbound lanes. However, a driver on the scene reports that you can get by on Braddock Road without taking any detour, so westbound Braddock Road remains passable. At least one westbound lane is passable, so you don’t have to head to Little River Turnpike if you are heading that way.

Also, don’t be alarmed if you see a heightened police presence on I-95 later this morning between Chesterfield and Caroline counties. It’s due to a Virginia State Police graduation set for 10 a.m.

6:50 A.M. Update:

Westbound Annapolis Road/MD 450 has reopened in Bladensburg and the emergency roadwork has been cleared.
