As the Wednesday morning rush hour begins, the District Department of Transportation plans to close heavily traveled Military Road NW for an emergency repair.

The District Department of Transportation said Military Road will be closed in both directions at 42nd Street NW for about an hour starting at 6:15 a.m. Workers will be pouring concrete to repair a section of roadway that collapsed. They will then cover the area with metal plates while the concrete dries. Later, the concrete will be covered with asphalt.

Though the repair is scheduled for an early hour, the work is likely to cause a lot of traffic congestion on the east side of Friendship Heights. Travelers should seek a route around the disruption Wednesday morning.
