Suspicious vehicle closes streets near White House [UPDATE: Streets reopening]

2:15 P.M. UPDATE: All streets are reopening and the situation is resolved, according to the U.S. Secret Service.

EARLIER: Several streets near the White House are closed as D.C. police investigate a suspicious car or package in the 1700 block of H St., NW, according to authorities.

Brian Leary, a spokesman for the U.S. Secret Service, said he had no other details as to the car and why it attracted attention. D.C. police are handling the investigation. A D.C. police spokeswoman said it was a suspicious package reported shortly after 1 p.m.

H Street between 16th and 19th streets is closed, along with an area roughly between the 1700 block of Pennsylvania Avenue NW, and the 700 and 800 block of 17th Street. K Street is also closed between Vermont Avenue and 14th Street.
