All lanes have reopened on the George Washington Parkway after a fatal crash that closed the road near Mount Vernon for several hours Monday.
The accident shut down all lanes in both directions between Mount Vernon Memorial Highway and Vernon View Drive.
The parkway reopened about 11:45 a.m., according to the U.S. Park Police.
The earlier lane closure is no longer impacting traffic, nor are any problems expected to linger into the afternoon and evening commute, said Sgt. Paul Brooks, police spokesman.
A car veered off of the roadway and into the woods, killing the driver and sending the passenger to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
