Orange Line resumes full service

Orange Line service has resumed following a mid-morning incident in which a woman intentionally stepped in front of a train at Ballston and was struck and killed, suspending service and snarling travel in both directions.

Orange Line service was suspended between the East Falls Church and Virginia Square stations for several hours as a result. Service resumed shortly after 2:45 p.m., with trains trains single-tracking between those stations due to the ongoing police investigation until full service resumed on both tracks at about 3:25 p.m.

Travelers at the Ballston Metro station who were off-loaded from trains described being disturbed and shocked by the scene.

“This whole ordeal is very sad, but I keep thinking about the driver of the train and how he must feel,” said Caroline Curtis of Shirlington.
