Pedestrian accident shuts down lanes at key Springfield intersection

A vehicle struck and seriously injured a pedestrian Thursday afternoon, forcing authorities to shut down a major intersection in Springfield during the height of the evening commute, Fairfax County police said.

The accident happened at the intersection of Old Keene Mill and Rolling roads just after 5 p.m. said Officer Eddy Azcarate. The pedestrian was identified only as a female, and she was flown to a local hospital with potentially life threatening injuries, police said.

Police shut down the intersection for at least an hour and delays were expected.
