Metro’s head of planning to discuss proposed overhaul

Metro riders with questions about the transit agency’s long-term plans can learn more at a meeting next week in Silver Spring.

Shyam Kannan, Metro’s head of planning, will discuss the agency’s strategic plan at a meeting of the Action Committee for Transit, a transportation advocacy group in Montgomery County. Kannan will talk about the plan and answer questions from those in attendance.

The $26 billion plan calls for new rail tunnels under the center of the District, eight-car trains across the system and other major changes to the system.

The meeting will be on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 7:30 p.m at the Silver Spring Civic Center (One Veteran’s Place, Silver Spring, Md.).
