One person critically injured in crash involving train, car [Updated]

February 6, 2013

A 25-year-old man was critically injured Wednesday afternoon after a CSX train collided with his car in the Brandywine area, according to Prince George’s County police and fire officials.

The crash occurred just before 4:30 p.m. on Brandywine Road near Ice Plant Road. Cpl. Larry Johnson, a police spokesman, said the driver of the car apparently “was attempting to cross the tracks before the train came,” and his car was hit. He was the only person hurt, Johnson said.

Fire officials said the railroad crossing where the collision occurred was not equipped with protective arms.

Johnson and fire officials said the man was taken to a nearby hospital with critical injuries, and police have shut down Brandywine Road at Missouri Avenue while they continue to probe the circumstances of the crash. Expect significant traffic delays in the area.
