Significant VRE delays due to cracked rail on Fredericksburg line

VRE riders are facing significant delays on all Fredericksburg line trains due to a cracked rail and a disabled freight train.

All train service was temporarily halted early Wednesday morning as a result of the rail problem near the Brooke station in Stafford, Va.

While service has resumed, riders are warned to expect residual delays for all morning trains. Metro is honoring VRE tickets.

Delays for trains 300, 302, 304 and 306 currently exceed one hour, according to VRE.

Train No. 300, which has resumed service, will bypass the Leeland and Brooke stations, but will make all stops going north starting at Quantico, officials said. Trains 302, 304 and 306 are expected to make all stops.
