A hefty blizzard is heading toward the Northeast, but here in Washington the weekend forecast calls for blustery winds and chilly temperatures. There could also be a quick dusting tonight, according to the Capital Weather Gang, but otherwise we’ll just have the collateral damage of winds, rain and cold.
The chilly winds probably won’t slow people who want to party with Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child (she’s hosting an event at Bar 7 tonight), stop by Chinatown for the Chinese New Year Parade on Sunday or hear Bon Jovi at the Verizon Center, also on Sunday. For more things happening this weekend, check the Going Out Guide.
Here’s what you need to know for getting around this weekend and beyond:
Metro weekend delays
Though there won’t be any station closures, Metro work will still lead to single-tracking and delays on the Red and Orange lines.
Red Line: Trains will single-track between Shady Grove and Twinbrook and between Rhode Island Ave and Takoma. This is to allow for platform reconstruction, track work and third-rail upgrades.
If you’re traveling through either of these work zones, add at least 15 minutes to your travel time.
Red Line trains will run between Shady Grove and Glenmont every 24 minutes. From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, extra trains will operate between Grosvenor and NoMa-Gallaudet, so trains should service those stops every 10 minutes.
Orange Line: Trains will single-track between Ballston and West Falls Church (for rail joint elimination and fastener renewal) and between Stadium-Armory and Cheverly (for platform reconstruction).
Orange Line trains will run every 24 minutes throughout the weekend. Make sure to add at least 15 to 20 minutes to your travel time.
[UPDATE: The Red Line work will last until the system closes on Sunday, but the Orange Line single-tracking will only last until the system closes on Saturday. Head here for more.]
