Metro’s Orange and Blue lines delayed by burning debris

Updated: 5:09 p.m.: Trains are no longer single-tracking on the Blue Line, but expect delays to remain in both directions.

Original Post: Burning debris in the tunnel between Benning Road and Capitol Heights has created delays on the Blue and Orange lines at the beginning of the afternoon commute.

The fire was extinguished shortly before 5 p.m., Metro reported, but delays have already begun to slow travelers in both directions. Blue Line trains were still single-tracking between Stadium-Armory and Morgan Boulevard at 5 p.m.

Trains should resume normal operations on two tracks shortly, but riders should expect delays in the near future on both the Blue and Orange lines.
