Overnight crash on Memorial Bridge won’t impact morning commute, officials said

An overnight crash in which an SUV drove off the Memorial Bridge into the Potomac River won’t impact Monday morning’s commute, officials said.

U.S. Park Police said that the vehicle crashed through a barrier on the south side of the bridge and plunged into the water around 10 p.m. on Sunday.

The driver was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. There were no other injuries, but the bridge was closed for several hours overnight into early Monday morning.

The bridge reopened around 2:30 a.m. Monday.
