Pedestrian struck by vehicle in Bethesda

A pedestrian has been struck by a vehicle in Bethesda.

Montgomery County Police said the woman was hit just before 8 a.m. on Westport Road near the 5200 block of Saratoga Avenue in Bethesda. The victim is being transported to the hospital by medevac helicopter with serious injuries.

The driver of the striking vehicle remained on the scene and the crash is under investigation, shutting down Westport Road at Saratoga Avenue, police said. No additional details about the crash were immediately available.

The crash is one of several traffic incidents throughout the region Tuesday morning, as drivers encountered dangerous patches of ice on roadways.
