Fire at Silver Spring apartment building causes injuries, road closures

Firefighters are on the scene of a two-alarm blaze at an apartment building in Silver Spring that officials said resulted in numerous injuries and road closures.

Crews responded to the fire at the Montgomery Towers apartment complex, in the 400 block of Silver Spring Avenue, around 7 a.m. Residents of the building were evacuated, and several people had to be rescued by ladder, officials said. No additional details were immediately available.

Silver Spring Avenue is closed between Piney Branch Road and Notle Avenue. Drivers are advised to avoid the area.
