Police activity impacts traffic around McPherson Square

Authorities have re-opened all of the blocked-off streets to traffic.

The Vermont Avenue entrance of the McPherson Square Metro station has re-opened. The road closures are still in effect.

Original post, 6:02 a.m.:

The McPherson Square area was blocked off early Wednesday due to police activity, after a suspicious vehicle was spotted near the White House.

The following streets are closed to traffic, according to D.C. police: Vermont Avenue at H Street NW, 15th Street at K Street NW, 15th Street at Pennsylvania Avenue NW, 16th Street at Pennsylvania Avenue NW, the 800 block of Vermont Avenue NW, the 900 block of 15th Street NW, 14th Street at I Street NW, the 1500 and 1600 blocks of H St NW, the 1500 to 1600 blocks of I St NW, 17th Street at H Street NW, and the 800 block of 16th Street NW. McPherson Square itself also is closed.

Additionally, the Vermont Avenue entrance of the McPherson Square Metro station is closed due to the police activity, according to WMATA. The 14th Street entrance remained open.

Several Metrobus lines are also being impacted by the street closures.

There was no timeline for when the closed streets or the Metro entrance would reopen, authorities said. No Metro delays have been reported, but drivers are urged to avoid the area.
