Fight on Red Line train at Gallery Place, arrest made

Metro said a “verbal dispute” became physical between two riders on a Red Line train at Gallery Place Friday afternoon.

An arrest was made, but no other details were immediately available.

Shortly after 3 p.m., one of the riders struck another in the face with a fist. No weapons were involved, according to Dan Stessel, a Metro spokesman. The suspect fled on foot to the 9th and G street exit of the station.

Trains were held for about 10 minutes, according to Caroline Lukas, a Metro spokeswoman. She said there were initial reports from passengers that the victim had been stabbed. But she said once transit police officers got there they found he had not been stabbed.
