Delays after person fatally struck by Amtrak train in New Carrollton

Normal service has resumed between Union Station and New Carrollton after a person was fatally struck by an Amtrak train, officials said.

Amtrak travelers should expect delays Sunday morning after a train fatally struck a person near the New Carrollton station in Prince George’s County, authorities said.

Authorities said a person, who has not been identified, was hit around 8:30 a.m. on the tracks south of the station. The train that hit the victim was en route to New York.

Single-tracking is in effect in the area near the accident, with delays of about 30 minutes. There is no estimate for when normal service will resume, an Amtrak spokesman said.
