Massive delays on eastbound U.S. 50 before Bay Bridge

If you’re leaving town and thinking of heading toward the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, you might want to reconsider that.

Eastbound U.S. 50 was utterly snarled approaching the bridge shortly after 6 p.m., with delays stretching the 20 miles from the toll plaza to the exit for U.S. 301 in Bowie.

Maryland State Police report that there aren’t any major accidents slowing traffic and that it’s just extreme volume causing drivers to inch along the roadway.

Still, rainy conditions could be exacerbating delays. Expect these delays to linger as more travelers head that way.
