Lane closures in Frederick, Md. due to tractor-trailer crash, fuel spill

A tractor-trailer crash and resulting fuel spill could cause traffic delays in Frederick, Md., Thursday morning, authorities said.

The ramp from westbound I-70 to westbound Route 15/340 is closed due to the accident.

Maryland State Police said the crash happened on the ramp around 2:30 a.m. after the driver of the tractor-trailer apparently lost control of the vehicle.

The tractor-trailer careened off the roadway, struck and dislodged a 100-foot stretch of guardrail, and came to a stop after striking a concrete bridge abutment above Route 351.

Debris that then fell onto Route 351 which caused two additional collisions, police said.

The impact of the crash damaged the tractor-trailer’s fuel saddle tanks, police said. An unknown amount of diesel fuel spilled onto the ramp and onto Route 351.

All lanes of Route 351 were closed for several hours due to the accident, but reopened around 6 a.m. The ramp from I-70 remains closed as crews work to clean up the spill and debris.

No information was immediately available about injuries to the drivers of the tractor-trailer or other vehicles involved in the collisions on Route 351.
